Taxi Drivers of Melbourne

I heard those familiar words....are you an Indian. It was 10 'o clock , i boarded a taxi to go home when taxi driver an Indian student in Melbourne asked me this question.

When I came to Australia, a country so far away from India, I never imagined that there would be so many Indians residing and working in Australia. Indians in Australia primarily come from two states, Punjab and Gujarat. Most of them come here on student visas and study is only a second motive , primary motive is to get permanent residency.

I work late regularly and take taxi to go home. Surprisingly, most of them talk to me. 90% of them are ex pats and almost 75% of them are Indians. The common thread between all their talks is the love for their home city/ country and how they are wasting their time here.

Why are these people unhappy and if so why are they here ! I found the answer to this question while talking to an Old Taxi Driver - " circumstances! , When they go home they are treated with great fan and fare if they go home permanently, they would be a commoner in the society which adores them now".

Human being is a social animal and his happiness comes from being well off amongst his own pack. An owner of corporations may be unhappy for the reason, his society consists of people who have still more money then him , but a simple farmer in a village may be happy cause he is well off as compared to his peers.

Its quite simple , these taxi drivers of Melbourne do not return home for they fear they will loose the celebrity status in their society which is blissfully unaware of the tedious life their favorite sons lead as allergens in an alien society year after year. They decide to be miserable all life to enjoy few days of superiority amongst people at home, rather than settle down and be peers to their pack.

Yes I am from India ...... I replied . Where in India are you from was the next question ....... not a very unexpected one though.
